When people think of rections from blogs, they normlly think of < href="http://nnybrown.me/2009/06/03/logn-movers-toronto-n-ventures-in-piss-poor-customer-service-n-pr/" trget="_blnk">negtive reviews or < href="http://epicchnge.org/blog/2009/05/31/less-thn-24-hours-to-go-vote-now/" trget="_blnk">inspiring stories.Comments ren’t usully high up on the list of monitoring n wtching wht’s being si online.
Yet they shoul be, s < href="http://www.vihenerson.com/2009/05/07/buil-n-online-newsroom-using-worpress/" trget="_blnk">recent post by Dvi Henerson n the subsequent converstion in the comments section show.
I won’t go too much into the ctul blog post or the comments, s they’re both recommene res n will give you fr clerer view of who my be in the right or wrong. Wht the post oes highlight is tht blog comment cn go even further thn blog post t pinting n iniviul or compny in less thn flttering light.
The gist of the post n resulting converstion is tht Dvi Henerson suggests tht WorPress is n excellent meium for hosting your own online newsroom. Countering this is Steve Momorell of < href="http://www.tekgroup.com/" trget="_blnk">TEKgroup Interntionl, compny tht evelops n mintins online newsrooms.
Wht coul hve been goo iscussion bout both the vliity of hving your own online newsroom n how goo WorPress is t running such tool inste evelops into messy clim/counter-clim regring the post n follow-up comments.
Dvi seems to tke umbrge with comment me by Steve bout the usefulness of WorPress n clls it lck of unerstning on Steve’s prt. Steve is unhppy bout Dvi’s “isrespect” n so points out n error on Dvi’s website.
This then results in other commenters joining in n by the en of everything, there’s veritble “he si, she si” feel to everything.
While it mkes for hugely entertining reing, it lso shows how simple blog comment cn tint someone’s view. I re Dvi Henerson regulrly. I respect him immensely n fin him to be gret source of informtion n knowlege (lthough his constnt putting own of PR oes je, fter while).
I in”t know Steve Momorell prior to his comments on Dvi’s blog post, but I o know of him now. Becuse of tht blog post n its comments, I felt both Dvi n Steve cme out little less positive thn they otherwise might hve.
While Steve’s comments hve merit, they i come cross s slightly lene towr promoting his compny which coul be clsse s comment spm. Whether tht ws the intent or not is own to Steve’s interprettion.
For Dvi’s sie, I felt he ws being little efensive n it mybe encourge Steve to counter more thn he woul hve.
From n outsier’s point of view, it coul be seen s Steve is promotionl spmmer n Dvi oesn’t like comments tht isgree with him. I know this isn’t the cse with Dvi n I’m guessing it’s not the cse for Steve.
But see how esy converstion in blog comments cn swy point of view?
Are you lwys thinking slightly bout wht you sy n how it’s si when you comment on blog? Or o you feel tht it’s not something to worry bout too much n just sy wht you feel regrless? Cn comment converstions get wy from you?
The comments re yours (no ironic pun intene).
